Ryder Cup Matches 2023
The Ryder Cup, officially known as The Ryder Cup Matches, is a team golf tournament held every two years between a selection of US players against a selection of European players. The competition takes its name from the trophy donated by the Englishman Samuel Ryder to the American federation in 1924 and is co-managed by the European Tour and the PGA of America.
Here are some details on the Ryder Cup game modes:
The current formula includes 8 foursomes challenges (competition in which couples play the same ball with alternating strokes), 8 fourballs (4 balls are played, one for each player, and the couple wins the hole whose player has used the least number of shots to finish it off) and 12 individual bouts.
The challenges take place over three days: from Friday to Sunday for a total of 28 matches.
Four fourballs are played in the morning and four foursomes in the afternoon (or vice versa) on Fridays. Saturday is played again according to the same scheme. On Sunday, 12 individual matches take place: therefore all twelve players of the two teams take to the field for the first time. At the end of the three days, the team with the most points is the winner.
